As you may know, we’re not the biggest fans of the ubiquitous obsession with Net Promoter Scores these days. We get it—it can be useful—but it can also be totally meaningless. So, we decided to put some meaning back into personal recommendations and share with you some of the brands, products, and services that we would actually—and often, passionately—recommend to friends and family.
Here’s our topline finding: the list isn’t very long, but it’s solid.
Now, the first in our series on What Real People Actually Recommend to Other Real People. Take note.

From our very own, Amy Good:
Hello insanely busy schedule, HelloFresh.
Of the various meal-delivery subscription services that exist to simplify my life and encourage me to branch out in the recipes I cook, HelloFresh has proven to be the healthiest, simplest, and honestly, the most delicious option for me. The service lets you pick three unique recipes each week, compiles all the ingredients, and delivers them to your door bundled in a cooler pack that keeps everything fresh. All you have to do is unpack, pick a meal, follow the recipe and voila! A photo-ready masterpiece that often appears on my Instagram feed.
I love to cook, but meal planning and grocery shopping after a long day can be exhausting. It takes forever, I spend too much, and I always forget an ingredient or buy munchies that I definitely don’t need. Having all of the ingredients, perfectly proportioned and delivered right to my door, is a time and stress-saver. Besides the convenience, HelloFresh also pushes me to try new recipes that I might otherwise reject as being too complicated to shop for. Another plus? I have a really hard time with portion control when picking recipes on my own and often end up with leftovers for days. Each HelloFresh meal is designed to feed two (or a family of 4, if you pick that option) and that means that no ingredient ever goes to waste because I bought too much. At $9.99 per meal, it’s not dirt cheap, but it’s also not going to drain the bank and I find the cost well-worth the quality and scope of ingredients.
Don’t foresee a busy schedule, hate all eight meal options (you pick 3!), or the service is a bit too out of budget to use every week? HelloFresh lets you skip an unlimited number of deliveries, no questions asked.
TL;DR: It’s convenient, it’s delicious, it makes my meal-planning efficient, and the results are impressive. Want to give it a go? Shameless promotion to use my referral link for $40 off your first box: https://share.hellofresh.com/x/teNuzw! Win-win for everyone.
